York Region Eco Team Gives Back to the Community
At Keller Williams Realty Centres, we take great pride in the generosity and social consciousness of our agents. We strongly believe in giving back to the communities in which we live and work. A wonderful example of this value is being demonstrated by Gary and Gina Semeniuk in Georgina. We turn over this blog post to Gary Semeniuk of the York Region Eco Team to share with us what they have done and what they have in the works for the Georgina area. We are so grateful to be in business with amazing agents like Gary and Gina Semeniuk!!
Our 1st Annual Thanksgiving Pie Giveaway was inspired by Gina and myself. We are very community spirited and to be honest in a business that has a lot of competition and not always the best of reputations in terms of a profession, we decided from the minute that we decided to step out of our custom home building and renovation business that we would get into real estate and make a difference with great service, community spirit and a have fun while doing it attitude.
We are not your typical brick and mortar Realtors®. We pride ourselves on being unique and approach our business with an out of the box attitude. The traditional methods of promoting ones real estate business is very expensive and takes a lot of time and energy to create a presence where people will remember and trust us. We decided to approach our business through a diversified social media approach and secondly to be very active in the community. By taking this approach we have been able to save a good portion of our marketing budget from being spent on the usual ways of self-promotion to one where we can have an ever louder voice in a virtual manner and give back to the community in a very meaningful way.
We started with our community Garage sale which has turned into quite the event and is getting set to go into year three in June of 2016, and we are proud to say that each year so far we have raised in excess of $800.00 to support local grass roots charities.
We do a lot of contests online to promote our Keller Williams Realty Centres/York Region Eco Team brand and they are very simple and low cost. The best thing is every contest we do, sets out with the purpose to promote local vendors in Georgina. We believe our community of merchants needs to be supported first, otherwise we won’t have the convenience of being able to shop locally.
The Thanksgiving event was conceptualized by myself and with my local connections I set out to make it happen. I got our good friends at The Queensway Marketplace onside with providing us the 200 pies (apple & pumpkin) at a reduced price and splitting the cost with us. I contacted our friends at the Highway 11 cruisers and asked them to bring out any classic cars they could, with the weather being top notch we have 30 cars show up. Our local music store and celebrities, The Connors Brothers helped us out upon approach to handle the live music for us and of course Boston Pizza Keswick provided the perfect venue for us with their large parking facilities and offered up Hot Chocolate/Coffee and had their face painter come out to paint up the little ones faces. We only allowed one vendor, our friends at Cakes By Jeys, she sold her amazing, decadent cupcakes of which during the three hour event, she sold over 450 cupcakes.
We also went around to a number of local merchants and had them donate prizes for us to do a prize draw including a $100.00 gift card donated by Gina and myself to entitle the winner to go in and use at a local electronics store.
The entire purpose of the event... give back and help The Georgina Food Pantry. The community did just that. The back of my pickup truck was filled with food donations and we had a few pies left over, so some local families got to celebrate Thanksgiving. We are fortunate enough to be blessed, so we had to make sure we passed along that abundance to others not so fortunate. Truly, this was a day of Win-Wins for all and the first of many years to come for this event.
We are now moving into our Pumpkin Carving Event set for October 28th at Pine Beach Park in Keswick and we have sponsored that event as well and will be giving 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the best carved pumpkin. We will support the Pine beach land owners association with monetary donations to help subsidize the year cost to run the private lake front park.
We are also running an online contest to celebrate Christmas. We cannot release a lot of details just yet, however we will be doing this through our Facebook page for a number of days in the month, supporting local merchants and or course our community. Be sure to Like us on Facebook to get all the details!
Georgina has a large online community and we embrace that fully with creative, passionate posts and engagement. I have a number of Facebook groups, all of which have different themes and purposes, Some are set up and sitting idle until we move closer in on the anticipated growth South of us in Sharon and Queensville. Our flagship group is Keswick rentals to real estate resource group. I do every aspect of social media, because it is all important an relevant as long as you take the time to become and expert and good at it, remember it’s social media, not boring media, we talk very little about what we do, that’s what our groups are for.
Social media groups I currently run are :
I am also getting set to start up one more group with the sole intention of men gathering to socialize and to contribute $$$ to support local causes, needs and charities.
We love our community, the KW brand and the fact that we get to live and also work in our own backyard here in Georgina. We are so fortunate to be able to live a great life here. We also have a great website that features local listings and the ability to set up street match searches for people looking to locate to Georgina. www.yorkregionecoteam.com
